Paid Legal Internship Opportunity

FCR seeks a legal intern to support FCR clients with their legal issues and concerns. In general, the legal intern will provide information and advocacy to FCR clients in areas such as family law, restraining orders, housing, and criminal justice. Specifically, the intern will be asked to develop and deliver “Know Your Rights” workshops for FCR clients and community members, create informational resources for self-represented litigants, conduct legal research and provide information on behalf of individual clients, and facilitate referrals to related legal and non-legal services. The intern would be supervised and mentored by FCR staff and consulting attorneys , as well as have the opportunity to observe these attorneys in court proceedings.

No prior legal experience is required, though experience working with survivors of abuse and/or trauma is preferred. Spoken fluency in a language other than English (particularly Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean or Haitian Creole) is a plus.

Qualifications (Vary Based on Department Placement)

·       Must be enrolled in accredited law school or be a paralegal

·       Driver’s license required; Background check required

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·       Strong attention to detail; excellent proofreading skills; ability to meet deadlines

·       Ability to maintain confidentiality

·       Highly organized with the ability to multi-task, work independently and within a team, and take initiative

·       Professional appearance in the community; friendly and outgoing personality; ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds

·       Ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds

15-20 hours per week; pay $25/hour
